Fertility clinic machine malfunction damages hundreds of eggs and embryos

March 25, 2018

A San Francisco fertility clinic experienced a liquid nitrogen failure in a storage tank holding thousands of frozen eggs and embryos.  The March 4 incident followed a similar malfunction the same weekend at an unrelated clinic in Cleveland where more than 2,000 frozen eggs and embryos may no longer be viable after temperatures in a storage bank rose over the weekend when the clinic was not staffed.  It is unknown whether the problem was caused by a human error or mechanical failure.

The two episodes carry powerful emotional and financial consequences for the hundreds of women who trusted this clinic to protect their hope for children in the future.  The process of removing and freezing a woman’s eggs is tough and can cost upward of $10,000, plus hundreds of dollars in yearly storage fees.   For some families, the treatment is their only chance at conceiving a child.

If you or a family member was injured by a negligent mechanical failure in a military hospital, our lawyers can help.  For a free, confidential consultation, please call us toll-free at 1-877-695-8757 (24/7), e-mail us at LawHelp@MilitaryMedicalMalpractice.com or fill out the short form on the right side of this page.
