According to a recent article in the New York Times, research has shown that doctors spend less time with obese patients and fail to refer them for diagnostic tests.   Patients report doctors blow them off and simply tell them to go to Weight Watchers, mistakenly assuming symptoms, such as shortness of breath, are caused by a person’s weight without investigating other likely causes, sometimes with deadly consequences.
