NPR and ProPublica teamed up for a six-month long investigation on maternal mortality in the U.S.. The resulting series of articles titled “Lost Mothers: maternal mortality in the U.S.” revealed shocking results including the fact that more American women are dying of pregnancy-related complications than in any other developed country. Only in the U.S. has the rate of women who die in childbirth been rising. Even more alarming is the fact that 60% of the deaths each year are preventable.
