The Navy claims the “discrepancy” it found in how surgical instruments were being sterilized presented a very low infection risk to patients, but did not disclose the nature of the “discrepancy.” It was serious enough that the sterilization site was immediately closed resulting in a shortage of properly sterilized surgical instruments and requiring postponement of some elective surgeries.
